Reported Speech - Tables

1. Pronouns and Possessive Adjectives in First person and Second person should be into Third person. Observe the following table:

Some times, if the person addressed, reports the speech, Second person is changed into First person.
2. While changing the speech, the two parts of the sentence should be connected with a conjunction. There are four types of sentences in reported part. So the conjunctions should be used as follows.

*First Exclamatory sentence should be changed into Assertive Sentence and then the conjunction ‘that’ should be added.
My teacher said to me, “Open the door.” (order)
My teacher ordered me to open the door.
He said to her, “Please give me your pen.” (request)
He requested her to give him her pen.
She said to him, “What is your name?” (question)
She asked him what his name was.
They said to her, “Did you finish the programme?” (enquiry)
They enquired her whether she had finished the programme.
Giri said, “How beautiful the flower is!” *(the flower is very beautiful)
Giri exclaimed that the flower was very beautiful.
3. Words expressing ‘nearness’ are generally changed into words expressing , ‘distance’, as given below.
